I downloaded this book from smashwords and although I am only halfway through with it, it promises to keep my attention until the end. I will follow up when I am finished. Keep up the good work!
Narration on this was great. Really help my attention. Good story.
Sleepwalker by Keith Latch is a horror novella available in paperback, kindle and audio editions.
The story develops around a series of particularly brutal murders, committed in the city of Memphis. The plot is not easily predictable, which makes the book rather interesting. The reader really wants to find out what happened next. On the other hand the whole story generally makes sense, which cannot be said about some of the novels of this genre.
Sleepwalker contains scenes of graphic violence, which I found extreme even for a horror. In particular there is a scene in which the authors describes, in medical terms and with great detail, mutilation of a young woman by a sadistic killer. This and other scenes go way beyond what was justified by the plot and almost made me stop listening to this book.
All in all it's an adequate piece of writing, but I personally didn't enjoy it. However, if you are a fan of the genre and are not disturbed by extreme violence, this book may suit your taste.
I had read another work by this author and liked it enough to try another. I wish I had stopped while the going was good. Firstly the editing, if there was any, was sloppy to the point it detracted from the story, what little there was. Some of the descriptions of the scenery of the book were actually vivid and prosaic, the book's only saving grace. Characters were forgettable and most of their actions made no sense. I don't like to criticize something someone might have worked hard on, but I would suggest picking up something else. I would say this was my least favorite book of the year, but there have been others so bad that I couldn't even finish them. The other pro about this book was that it is short, so my torture ended quickly.
This is my second book from this author and I have to say he is one of the best writers. He is so detailed and holds nothing back while describing in detail the killings and the emotions of the characters. The characters are human and you instantly feel for them....whether it is sympathy or intense dislike. Great read!!!!
Sleepwalker is right up my alley. I thought this was more of a crime book than a horror book, but there are some very horrific and just downright gut-wrenching scenes in this novella. Not that I admire serial killers or anything, but I do find them fascinating, and Latch manages to give us a glimpse into the mindset of one, and not only the mindset of a killer, but the mindset of the people trying to stop him. This book gave me some chills, and even managed to make me squirm, which is no easy task. You really can't go wrong by checking this out--and I got if for 99 cents! I also love Kieth's podcasts--which is how I heard of him to begin with.
